January is that month where I run around like a chicken with my head cut off. We've had record high enrollment in the calligraphy workshop this month (so exciting!!), so I've been busy keeping up with personal feedback.
Did I mention that Chris is taking the course? Chris has the worst handwriting. I keep telling people that handwriting has nothing to do with calligraphy (because it's more about drawing letters, not writing), now I'm putting my money where my mouth is.
I'm taking this opportunity to make the coursework bullet proof and Chris is taking this experience to make the UX as smooth as possible. Big changes are coming in 2014 with IStillLoveCalligraphy.com. I can't wait to share those with you.
While I prep for Alt Summit and big changes with I Still Love Calligraphy, things may get a little quieter still around here. It's hard to balance work and life, so unfortunately posting here will be even more infrequent at two posts per week.
It's frustrating that I can't do it all, but I've decided to scale back posts so any posts that I do publish are my very best.
(iphone pic, sorry)
The first quote I did (top pic) is from my friend Susan. She's so amazing at coming up with cheeky and inspiring one-liners. My biggest downfall in calligraphy is coming up with what to say. So I'll just quote her. I ended up giving this to her a few months ago. I loved how the brown and gold two-tone turned out.
The second is a plaque that I lettered for the office admin at my dentist's office. She bought a large-scale map for their home (as an anniversary gift) for documenting their travels. I lettered a little plaque that ended up mounted on the pacific ocean of their map. I loved her idea. If Chris and I travel (which I plan to, but traveling with smalls is more than I can handle at the moment) I want to do the same thing with a map and a plaque with pins of all of our travels. See similar idea here.
I hope your 2014 is off to a great start! Now if you can send any extra energy my way so I can survive the month, that'd be much appreciated!! :)
