This week has been absolutely bonkers. The weeks up until mid-October are just going to be insane, I tell you. But I’ve made sure to squeeze in as much fun as possible. Here’s what’s been going on:

Remember how I posted about this delicious flatbread technique over at Rhodes blog? Well I shared it over on Simply Modern Mom with a few adjustments. I make flatbread sandwiches using this technique at least twice a week. It’s soo good I can’t get enough. Check it out & go make yourself some Rhodes flatbread right now.

I make yarn pom poms for decorating our tree every year, but this year is going to be different. Check out Skip to My Lou for how to make killer jersey pom ornaments using old t-shirts. Heck, use this tutorial to accessorize your hair. I know I’m going to.

Last night was the best night out I’ve had in a long time. Jill, Libby and I drove to UVU to listen to JESSICA HISCHE (my design/lettering/illustration icon!). She was so inspiring, transparent & approachable. Honestly, I’m more thrilled about meeting her than I would be if I had the chance to meet Heidi Klum. She’s way awesomer. (No offense, Heidi, you’re still cool, it’s just Jessica is cooler). I hate my expression in this pic; it’s a little scary – but you see my excitement?!? It was a dream for Jill & me to actually meet her. So much talent right there. Seriously. That woman can letter circles around me. Also, I’m way jealous that she & her husband live in San Francisco. So jealous.

What are you up to this weekend? I’ll be teaching another calligraphy class – can’t wait!

    1. Jessica is a sweetheart. Look at you! You are so excited. Anytime I take a pic with someone I really admire, I look abso horrible! It’s a weird curse I have.

Have you ever tried slicing the roll to make a pocket and then stuff it and then grill it? I’m wondering if that would work. Sounds yummy to me. :)

I’m a total Jessica fan too! I’ve been following her for a long while (longer than you) and love her sites and her stuff. I’m completely jealous that you got to here her talk. Thanks for writing about it–are you going to blog some of the things you learned? Just curious.

Those flatbreads do look pretty tasty…but then I’d have to thaw out some dough…not sure that’ll happen. I just keep the bag of dough balls in my freezer for good measure, not for actual cookery.

That Hische was so awesome. I wish I could adopt her and her cute cowgal boots! Okay, you’re cool too. You can also be adopted…do you have any boots to sweeten the deal?!

    4. Emily says:

      That flatbread looks amazing!!

I will definitely be making those Christmas ornaments, that you for sharing! I always have Rhodes rolls in my freezer- I need to get creative and use your recipes. On another note, who’s the very lucky winner for the back to school giveaway? Have fun teaching your class. I’ll be having fun at the zoo with my sister and little girl.

I am DROOLING over that copy of Jane Eyre peeking into the corner of your last picture. Do you know who the publisher is? I want to put it on my bookshelf!

    7. Vanessa says:

hahaha I LOVE your expression and Jessica is WAY cooler than Heidi! You’re so lucky! I hope I’ll be able to see her speak one of these days ^_^

    8. Morgan Rapp says:

I went to her lecture too! She is so charming and talented!

    10. Padgett Hoke says:

that is really so exciting! she is really unbelievable – but don’t fool yourself – you are just as talented in my opinion!

    11. Jenn says:

      I’d be completely starstruck too.

    12. Becka says:

Hey, I love the Rhodes rolls idea. I’ll have to try that. You’re creative :)

    13. linda says:

I love the flatbread idea. I think I’ll try it next time I make bread. I’ll set aside some of the dough, and instead of baking it in the oven, I’ll make flatbread sandwiches for dinner. How about spreading it with mashed avocado, and adding sliced tomatoes and cilantro? Yum.

    14. Irene says:

I to would be more thrilled about meeting Jessica Hische than a movie or tv celebrity!

As soon as i saw your picture I was struck with deep jealousy.I had no idea she was going to be in Utah. I would have been up there in a second. I would be so excited too. I have a friend who is a friend of hers and that makes me feel like I’m kinda cool. Haha! It would be WAY COOLER to meet her in person.
