Activity Contest & Giveaway

Knock knock just recently sent me a few parenting products that they just added in stock, that I love. Since I started blogging over 4 years ago, I stopped journaling. That’s a pretty big deal since I’ve been semi-regularly journaling since I was 6. My very first journal entries were all practically the same (which I find so hilarious). Why did I think it was so important to journal that I had breakfast?

Roughly translated, here’s what it says:

Sunday 4-1991 (I was 6 1/2). Today we ate breakfast, and then we ate lunch. We went to church. Today it is ma may. Today we went to school. I went to go home. I got a snack. I got (something). I watched TV. I loved watching TV.

May 1991  Thursday is May. My mom had her birthday today. I gave mom a note on Peggy’s birthday. Mom had a happy birthday. We had a good breakfast.

Gosh, I can’t believe that was 20 years ago this month!

Whenever Penelope does something funny, I often think oh I’ll remember this forever. Of course that’s never the case. I was overjoyed to get Knock Knock’s parenting journal. It’s full of hilarious quotes & it focuses on the imperfections of parenting. The front cover really says it allundefined

Since receiving the journal I’ve written in it pretty much every other night; if not, every night. It’s great to document all of the Penelope-isms & track Felix’s growth. Oh, Felix ROLLED OVER today. WHA? Penelope didn’t roll over until she was at least six months. I’m in trouble.

Knock Knock also sent along Parenting Flash Cards (so hilarious & the perfect gift for first-time parents) and a Let’s Pretend Pad. Chris & I  just laughed & laughed while we read the parenting flash cards. They’re hilarious!

I’m not sure if Penelope is old enough to play with the Let’s Pretend pad, but after she seemed so interested in air stories last night, I might give it a try soon. Just barely I’ve started telling air stories to Penelope; it was something that my parents did for me as a kid. I loved those! Basically my parents would sit at the foot of our beds & we’d all contribute to a made up story. It was so fun!

Knock Knock was so nice to send these goodies my way & offer to sponsor a giveaway. I gladly accepted for a few reasons:

  • I love everything Knock Knock
  • I need a journal
  • I want you to share your playtime activities with me

Yeah, I need ideas for things to do with Penelope. We’re in a rut these days. All we ever do is go to the park, run errands or watch TV together. Every once in a while I’ll bust out the paints or playdough, but other than that, our days are pretty boring.

SO, if you’re interested in some free Knock Knock stuff, I’d want your best ideas for fun activities to do with 3 year olds. Let the best idea win! Here are the contest guidelines:

Our son is almost 3 (in 2 weeks) and his favorite thing to do recently is pretend he’s Snoopy in his doghouse which is basically a cardboard box. It’s good to see his imagination is working. With rainy days and a 6 month-old it’s hard to get out of that rut of watching TV and running errands. I think I was in that rut the entire winter. Bleh.

Oh, and I love the parenting journal. I’ve been thinking I need to document the crazy stuff my son comes up with.

I would love the “Let’s Pretend” pad from knockknock. I don’t have kids of my own but I nanny full time and work with a variety of ages. I hang out with a 5 year old three days a week, it’s been since she’s three; so I’ve had to learn a few tricks so she doesn’t get bored. We find chunks of wood laying around, or go to the beach and find cool rocks. We use puffy paint, or oil pastels and paint them, we bought a blow up dolphin (the kind you use in the water) and she takes care of that daily. With allergies in the house, that is her pet. It has kept her occupied for hours on end. We also do storytime at the local library, take advantage of the many parks around here and often pack a snack or picnic lunch.

my 3 old loves being read to. i have made him some silk play scarfs and he loves pretend play with them. Another favorite is duplo lego blocks… he loves making things out of it. He also likes to do jigsaw puzzles.

Hahahahaha!!! This Parenting Flashcard is hilarious and yes, the term blowout is used in my house already in this context. Sooo funny. I must have these (to see the rest of them).
I also love the Guided Parenting Journal, if I won it I would give it to my sister to help her document all the great little things about having twins! Her twin boys are 3 months old, things happen so fast and ofcourse with 2 babies it is more difficult to write down every cute thing they do and how they are different from one another. This would be perfect for her.
A fun activity to play with your 3 year old is an old fashioned scavenger hunt that ends in a fun together activity. You can hide themed objects around the house or yard and give your little one a basket or sack to collect all of the “treasures”. You can hide kitchen utencels and bowls etc around, when they are all found you can make muffins or cookes together. Or hide Felt and googly eyes and fur and make a puppet at the end. Or seeds and pots and tiny shovels and plant a small garden together.
There are lots of activities you can find to do as your ending project and then just invent your scavenger hunt around the items to create your finished project. The ideas are endless.

You should check out all of Emily’s (from the Polka-Dot Umbrella)ideas for her fun jar. I don’t have kids so I am no help when it comes to activities but Emily has some great ideas. Each month she adds a new list of activities. Here is the link

      Who won?

    8. Not actually entering because I’m a Canuck, but I love this book! I wish I could go back in time and wish for it for Mothers Day! They forgot ‘poopsplosion’ on the card though. PS, my 5.5 month baby girl is CRAWLING?! And yesterday she STOOD UP on her own in her playpen and I literally shrieked because she startled the crap out of me. And today she was trying to do it on a chair and I yelled again because it scares/scared the crap out of me; like hi, she is not even half a year old, she is gonna smash her face on the chair, no?? Confession: I was babywearing her for like two hours today in a desparate attempt to slow her down.
what the crap, Olivia. Be a baby.
