February Flickr Winner

I was just so floored to see the amount of participation last month in IS•LY’s budding flickr group! Thanks to everyone for posting your handmade treasures! Since there were so many fun things added to the group, it was SO DIFFICULT to pick a winner. You guys are so creative and crafty!

Upon careful consideration, Susan and I agreed that the cutting board Faith made knocked our socks off. See?

Congratulations, Faith! You win the handbound book + stickers.

Do you see how gorgeous this end-grain wood cutting board is? It’s stunning. Faith gives you a sneak peek at the process on her blog here. I want to take that woodworking class!

Coming in close second is the book that Madeline made from a vintage drawer. I thought it was a brilliant use of materials. I think the lock and handle add such a unique element to the book!

Bummed you didn’t win, or didn’t submit your photos in on-time? Never fear! I’m organizing all of the details for IS•LY’s handmade challenge for March! It’s going to be awesome! Keep posted.

Wow, thanks Melissa! There were so many fantastic projects posted in the pool; I’m really very honored. I picked up woodworking by taking a community ed class off and on again over the last few years and really love it.

If anyone’s interested, I made a short slide show about the process of making these cutting boards.

    Thanks, again!

I LOVE your cute little blog! Somehow I came upon one of your posts where you made your own maternity dress. Do you remember that? Anyway, I’m pregnant with my second and was wondering where you got the pattern for your maternity dress? I know you altered it to make it maternity. Thanks for your help!

    Angela,

Thanks for your question, and CONGRATULATIONS!! Babies are so worth it.

I definitely remember that one! To answer your question, I modified Simplicity pattern 3673. It’s part of the 1950s retro series. To make a more maternity friendly skirt, I used the largest of the skirt pattern pieces and added pleats instead of sewing darts. If you have any questions, please email me.
