Thrifty: White and NOT boring

This post is brought to you by Tai Pan Trading.

I’m currently working on de-cluttering my house. This has been a mission for a few years now. In my quest to de-clutter and add special items for serving, entertaining and everyday use; I decided that I’m going to take an all-white approach.

My plates, bowls, servingware and some cups are all white. They vary in shape and style, and sometimes vary in type of white, but all together, they look really nice together. I’m not a straight-out-of-the-box kind of gal, so I like to find special pieces to match my house anywhere. And I do look from Crate and Barrel down to thrift stores.

Just recently I scored this fantastic (and quite large) ceramic pitcher for $5 (no coupons involved, either) at Tai Pan. I believe it holds about 2.5 quarts. That’s big and cheap in my opinion.

I’ve curated a round up of a few of my favorite white things from around the web, and featuring them over at Houzz.com. These picks are well under $100, save for a few (albeit gorgeous) exceptions. I hope you check them out.

So, do you have a go-to color like white? Mine used to be black, way back in my college days.

White is not boring! I too have an all-white dining/serving set. I believe it looks gorgeous regardless of the table setting. That pitcher sure is a great find!

I’ve been switching my dishes over to all white as well. My dream kitchen would have open shelving so even mismatched dishes would look great if they are the same color!

I love white! I almost want to repaint my entire house white. Most of our accents are white now. :)

I made the switch to white serving pieces and dishes a few years ago when I finally moved out of dumpy college apartments with dumpy college kid things. It has proven over and over to be a great decision because any time I have pulled them out they have worked with whatever color scheme the holiday, dinner party, or baby/bridal shower had going on. It’s like my kitchen’s version of the little black dress.

      ohh that s a very nice piece ” a godrons ” :-)

    6. Love this. I think we have a similar milk glass collection. Love white. It goes with everything! There is something about white glass items that seems so modern and clean! But I do love vintage pyrex passionately. All those colors and vintage patterns. $5 is really a great price -a styleless plastic pitcher costs nearly that much! Very well done! (Again!) :)

This is off subject but I remember a post about how you made a new cover for Felix’s carseat a while back. My newborn neice was here today and I got out my old bouncy seat for her to use while here. I was looking at it and its realllllllly ugly. I mean….I will send you a picture! haha Anyway I had an epic light bulb go off in my head. Spraypaint the frame(baby could never touch it anyway) Reupholster the fabric seat cover! *giggles*
Annnnnd I can repaint my sesamee street(yep) walker with the plastic spray paint(new favorite medium) and also sew a new fabric seat for it. I could very inexpensively update my baby gear! Muahahahahahahaha Of course it will take me a long time to get around to it but next baby I have will be walking and bouncing in style! (hopefully) LOL

A little bit of inspiration goes a looooooong way!

I love white, too! Pretty much all of my dishes are white. Although after that my go-to is blue, and I do have a set of dishes that my mom bought at a yard sale that have blue polka dots on the edges. I love them!

yup, i do all white also. id love to have a whole drawer full of mis matched utencils also! i love the look and i can keep adding to it despite trends that come and go. i love a table with all white plates and drinking from mason jars!! ahhhh, the little things!!

    9. my go to color is turquoise — we actually had to make a rule that i’m not allowed to paint anything else turquoise until we have a house with more rooms. the living room is like turquoise heaven :)
